The Shape of Things
Painting is a continuation of Brewster’s exploration into the societal pressures on the female mind and body, expressed through her brush. Creating with inks and acrylic on paper and canvas, these abstracted paintings conjure the complexity of the female form and psyche. Calligraphic curves are redolent of the structure of a back or the sweep of a breast; in other instances, the imagery eludes instantaneous recognition. Each painting takes us on an individual journey.
Below is an extract of some of the voices, forms and tensions which arise.
